The National Institute for Democracy (NID), in collaboration with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Namibia (FES), the European Union (EU), and Franco Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC), hosted the International Women’s Day 2026 High-Tea, a women-empowered dialogue session at FNCC in Windhoek.
Under the theme “Give to Gain“, the objective was to host the 2026 Women’s High Tea in alignment with International Women’s Day, to provide at least 30 women a platform to engage in a dialogue on leadership, empowerment, and gender equality.
- To facilitate informed discussions on gender pay equity, care work recognition, GBV prevention, and social protection for women in the informal economy.
- To strengthen intergenerational mentorship and peer networks that promote collective action and shared learning.
- To amplify the voices of women’s lived experiences as inputs into policy advocacy and Programme design.
- To inspire participants to identify practical actions, individually and collectively, that enhance women’s economic security and personal safety.
- To empower women to become self-reliant, informed, and active agents of change who contribute meaningfully to economic justice, social cohesion, and democratic development.
Outcomes: The event featured a keynote address from Mrs Hilda Basson-Namundjembo, who spoke about “what it truly means for women to break through glass ceilings, not as a slogan, but as a lived reality, as courage, sacrifice, and the responsibility of opening doors wider for those who come after us.“
