Namibia Institute for Democracy (NID)

The Namibia Institute for Democracy (NID) is a non-profit organisation established in 1991 to promote civic education and enhance citizen participation in Namibia’s democratic landscape. Operating under Section 21 of the 2008 Societies Act, NID has been a key partner in civil society for over three decades, working to strengthen democratic governance, civic participation, and institutional accountability. Over the years, NID has built strong partnerships with national and international development actors, enhancing its mandate and expanding its impact across Namibia.

Guided by its vision of an inclusive, transparent, and participatory democracy, NID empowers citizens, civil society organisations, and public institutions through innovative programs and evidence-based advocacy.

Our Mission

NID’s mission is to empower citizens, civil society, and public institutions by:

I Vote Namibia

The NID has created a youth-friendly social networking site (SNS) to promote the values of citizenship and civic participation and help give young Namibians a platform to voice their opinion. As civic educators, youth are encouraged to report on the daily issues in their community and to share them with their peers and elsewhere in Namibia through the use of social media and this community page.
